Why you must read: It's one of the few fics this short that has reduced me to tears. Tears of happiness and joy. It's hard to explain, but if you really have Aslan in your heart, you will.
I guess this one really touched me right now, because I'm working my way through "Inside Prince Caspian - A Guide to Exploring the Return to Narnia" by Devin Brown. it's the second in the series. I found "Inside Narnia - A Guide to Exploring The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe". It's wonderful. It's both a critical review of the story and a look at the theology and philosophy behind Lewis himself. It goes into what was going on in Lewis life at the time he wrote the books, the people around him that helped form the characters, the world at the time he lived in, and his own words about his writing and his thinking behind it. It also goes into the works of others who have studied Lewis and the Chronicles themselves. Then as an added bonus, discusses the differences that add to or subtract from the movie in relationship to the stories themselves.

Date: 2009-02-22 12:06 pm (UTC)"If you found Narnia through the wardrobe, you may think you know all there is to know about this mystical land. But you're only just begun the journey. In Prince Caspian, there is much more to discover. Tracing through Prince Caspian chapter by chapter, Devin Brown explores fascinating symbols, hidden meanings, and easily missed details that swirl in and around the return to Narnia--all to the delight of the book lovers and film fans alike.
If you're ready to be transported back into the magical world of Narnia, this careful literary analysis is where you should start."
It goes chapter by chapter, but then also covers where the film follows the book or differs from the book and if those differences enhance or take way from Lewis' vision.
It's a very cool book. :-)

Date: 2009-02-22 11:23 pm (UTC)I'll have to get those books from the library (hopefully) or save up to get them from Amazon. And I need to get back to reading the collection of Lewis' letters that I've got. I'm only about a third the way through the first of three volumes... He was an incredibly prolific correspondent and I wonder how he managed to keep up on the letterwriting and still write everything else he wrote.
He's a fascinating person to learn about.
